Against a global backdrop of growing challenges to human rights, increasing attacks on checks and balances, and an unprecedented decline in funding for international solidarity, Avocats Sans Frontières is today publishing its 2025 Annual Report.
Once again this year, our work focused on places where access to justice is under the greatest threat. Alongside human rights defenders, lawyers, civil society organisations, and communities affected by violence and injustice, we pursued a shared ambition: to make the law a tool for protection, resistance, and social transformation.
In North Africa, our teams supported human rights defenders in Kenya, Morocco, and Tunisia, often from the very first hours following their arrest, to ensure that their rights were respected and that they had access to effective legal representation.
In East Africa, as elections approached in Uganda and Tanzania, we documented the growing restrictions imposed on civil society and helped preserve the evidence needed for future accountability efforts.
In Central Africa, we continued to support victims of arbitrary detention, survivors of international crimes, and communities affected by the illegal or abusive exploitation of natural resources.
In Europe and across both shores of the Mediterranean, we also strengthened our work with young people to promote dialogue, combat discrimination, and build collective responses to hate speech and exclusionary policies.
Throughout this report, you will discover how our teams and partners continue to work in often extremely challenging contexts. It presents the results of our programmes, the challenges we face, and the lessons learned from a year that reaffirmed a fundamental reality: when human rights come under attack, access to justice remains one of the most powerful tools for protecting people and strengthening the rule of law.
Despite the setbacks witnessed around the world, civic mobilisation, the courage of human rights defenders, and the commitment of our partners remind us that meaningful action is always possible.
